Minnijean Brown-Trickey was a member of the Little Rock Nine, a group of nine Black American teenagers who integrated into an all-white high school following the 1957 Supreme Court ruling that state-segregated schools were unconstitutional. The young girl faced the Arkansas National Guard and violent white supremicist mobs. She went on to study journalism, earn a Master of Social Work, and serve the Clinton Administration as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Workforce Diversity at the Department of the Interior. Brown-Trickey is a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal.
